Malouf hosts charity auction
Malouf Fine Linens hosted a charity auction on Dec. 4 to raise funds for cancer patients.
Jake Neeley, Malouf’s marketing director, said that the auction raised about $8,000 and that the money will be used to make comfort kits for people who’ve been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
This is the third year Malouf has hosted the auction, but that in previous years the focus was on breast cancer. This year also yielded the highest turnout.
“The first year was essentially just employees and spouses, so about 60 people,” Neeley said. “The second year there were about 200, but this year we had 800.”
Neeley said the auction included 93 contributions from about 60 different businesses based mostly out of Cache Valley.
In previous years, the money was used to make approximately 1,500 comfort kits for people with breast cancer. Neeley said these kits included a pillow from Malouf, a night shirt from Lazy One, Socks from Altra, a dehydrated meal from Modern Table, a reminder band from Reminderband, essential oils, and some included a $105 gift card for Al’s Sporting Goods.
“The prostate cancer comfort kits will be very similar,” Neeley said. “Right now we’re in the process of working with other companies to decide what will go inside them.”
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website, about 114.1 out of 100,000 Utah men develop prostate cancer each year.
“The way it works in Logan is when people get diagnosed, the Logan Regional Hospital sends them a letter explaining the comfort kits and tells them where to go to request one,” Neeley said. “We want to make 1,700 kits to give away.”
