Antique mall moves downtown

Cache Valley Antiques has moved to a new location in downtown Logan.
The antique mall officially opened to the public on Nov. 27 after a suit store called the Kater Shop moved, leaving an empty store in Logan’s downtown center.
“We always wanted a downtown location,” said Linda Goetze, a co-owner of Cache Valley Antiques. “Fortunately, I decided to just walk around Logan and see if anything was available and I saw the sign in the window.”
Shelly Wagstaff, one of the owners of Cache Valley Antiques, said that there was competition to fill the vacant shop between them and the Country Village Antique Mall.
Goetze said that the owner of the location met with both antique shops, and decided to go with Cache Valley Antiques.
“I called the owner of the building and he liked our concept of participating in downtown Logan events,” said Goetze. “He also liked the whole antique-retro-vintage-collectible idea.”
Cache Valley Antiques is currently participating in a gingerbread house competition as well as the Logan Downtown Art Gallery Walk. It will be displaying art work from Logan 7th graders on Dec. 11.
Wagstaff said the antique shop currently rents different areas of the store to different vendors, then makes 12 percent of the profit of each item sold, which is how they pay to rent the location.
“We recruit vendors who want space and set up their little mini store within our store,” said Goetze. “It makes it more cost effective for us as well as making merchandise more diverse because everyone has their own different style.”
Goetze said she thinks her antique store will bring more people to the downtown area.
“I think we can bring merchandise that’s more unique and artisan,” she said. “We have things that are two or three hundred years old. We have old rock albums. We have matchbox cars and other toys for kids. We have real 18th century Copenhagen china, Native American rugs, that kind of thing.”
